The March for Life in Vilnius gathered thousands of participants. Slogans were chanted: “Lithuania, stay alive!”, “Ban abortion in Lithuania!” and “Let’s restore the Catholic state!”

On October 4, in the center of Vilnius, the March for Life took place, attracting thousands of people from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. The march began at the Gates of Dawn and continued to Cathedral Square, where the main program and public speeches were held.

Among the marchers were representatives of the Christian Culture Institute (VšĮ „Krikščioniškosios kultūros instituto“), who marched with a prominent banner depicting the Institute’s symbol – a fighting lion and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The banner bore the inscription “Tradition – Family – Property.”(„Tradicija – Šeima – Nuosavybė“). Although the march was non-political, we saw representatives of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (Lietuvos Krikščioniškosios Demokratijos Partijos), one of whom even helped us. Institute members also distributed small posters to participants, showing a baby in the womb against the background of the Lithuanian flag and the inscription “#waveoflife” („#gyvenimo banga“) According to organizers, this symbol expresses not only the value of biological life, but also the spiritual responsibility for a person’s vocation. They say that every abortion takes not only a life, but also a possible future – future bishops, priests, composers, generals, lawyers, even presidents or popes, whose lives could have enriched the nation and the world.

The phrase “#waveoflife” also means our commitment, as families and parents, to ignite a wave – not only of biological life, but also of numerous births of people who could become future leaders of the Lithuanian nation. As Institute representatives emphasized, such births are lacking today – since 1991, Lithuania has lost about 520,000 lives due to abortions, which means not only a physical loss but also the loss of the nation’s spiritual potential. The march was also attended by Catholics advocating for the restoration of a Catholic state. They carried a banner with the slogan “Let’s restore the Catholic state!”, emphasizing that in the face of moral crises and demographic challenges, Lithuania must return to Christian foundations. During the march, a group of participants chanted “Lithuania, stay alive!”, “Ban abortion in Lithuania!” and “Lithuania, don’t kill yourself!”, urging politicians to take concrete steps to protect life and strengthen moral values. According to them, society cannot remain sustainable if the right to life is not unconditionally respected.

Before and after the march, representatives of fraternal organizations from Estonia and Poland also spoke. Markus Järvi, head of the Estonian Association for the Protection of Family, Tradition, and Property (Est. Sihtasutus Perekonna ja Traditsiooni Kaitseks), emphasized that the Baltic nations are united not only by historical heritage but also by moral responsibility to defend life from the moment of conception. He said that “the protection of life is a matter of the survival of civilization.”

Agnieszka Gracz from Poland, representing the Ordo Iuris Institute and the Center for Life and Family (Centrum Życia i Rodziny), reminded in her speech that “the fight for life is not only a matter of faith but also of defending human dignity.” She thanked Lithuanian Catholics for their courage and stressed that Lithuania, Poland, and Estonia have a common mission – to protect Christian civilization from cultural decline and moral relativism.

At Cathedral Square, there were public speeches and testimonies. Representatives of the Church, members of the “Pro-Life Lithuania” movement, youth organizations, and guests from Latvia and Estonia spoke. Speakers emphasized that the aim of the march was not a political protest but an invitation to dialogue and support for women and families. According to organizers, the goal is to raise public awareness of the value of life and to promote a culture of assistance. The event became a symbolic moment for the Baltic countries. It was the first March for Life of such scale, uniting three countries – Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Organizers stressed that the issue of life is a shared responsibility of the region, especially considering demographic challenges and declining birth rates. According to participants, a united voice for life should become a sign of Baltic unity. After the march, there were various reactions from the public and politicians. Representatives of the Lithuanian Bishops’ Conference thanked all participants, emphasizing that respect for life is a moral and human value. Meanwhile, several liberal politicians called the march “a return to the past” and urged to separate religious beliefs from state policy. The media featured both supportive and critical comments – some highlighted the maturity of civil society and the peaceful nature of the event, others saw an attempt to influence political decisions regarding family and life issues. Despite differences in assessments, most agreed that such a march revealed society’s desire to discuss the moral foundations shaping Lithuania’s future.
